Introduction

I have found 21, suburban side hustles, where you can make big money. These side hustles are available to anyone, even if you live in a suburban area, and you’ll love them. Many of them I have done myself. Many of them, including other friends of mine, have done them successfully. These suburban side hustles will make you rich in 2024.

1- Buying & Selling Scrap Metal

The first one is going to be Buying & Selling Scrap Metal. Have you ever looked at that rusty pile of metal in your backyard? I thought, what if I could pay for my next vacation with this? Spoiler alert: Sometimes, it can be because one person’s trash can be another person’s ticket to riches, and this is the ultimate side hustle that turns junkyards into gold mines. This involves buying or finding scrap metal in a suburban area and selling it to recycling centres or processing facilities.

This side hustle capitalizes on a demand for scrap metal. It provides a service to preserve unwanted metals while generating income through the resale of these materials. A fun fact about this is that this has been a side hustle since ancient times, and there’s evidence of metal recycling dating back to Ancient Rome. Regarding earnings, scrap metal business owners in the US have been reaping the rewards for years. For example, in 2020, the scrap metal market in the US was evaluated at approximately 52 billion dollars, and it has been growing by 3% every year.

So, this is something where you can reliably make a thousand dollars a month; there are even some months or some people that take it seriously, and they can make much more than that. Plus, you’re providing a valuable service to society as well. So, overall, I’m going to go ahead and give this one an 8.5 out of 10 opportunity score.

2- Handyman

The next suburban side hustle is Handyman, and there’s a perfect app you can use to do this. It’s called TaskRabbit now. There’s a good chance Taskrabbit is available in your area, and typically, you’ll start making about $35 an hour. You can do various things, from helping people move to assisting people to painting a house or helping people clean up their yards. Most people don’t know how to do physical labour.

They don’t know how to fix things or do things that require them to get their hands dirty, and everybody’s trying to go to college and get a white-collar job. So, if you’re the type of person who can fix things or you can do physical labour. There are a ton of opportunities out there for you. Handymen typically charge about $50 to $80 per hour, which averages about $320 to $600 per day. However, you can charge a lot more than that, depending on the type of work that you do.

So, overall, this one is excellent, and I get it. Most of you probably don’t want to do this for the rest of your life, but it can be a great way to make some extra money on the side or even have a job for a short period of your life and save up money and then later on get a better job. So, I’ll give this one a 9.5 out of 10 opportunity score.

3- Starting A YouTube Channel

The next suburban side hustle is going to be Starting A YouTube Channel. Even if you live in the middle of nowhere, you live in a suburban area. You can start a YouTube channel with an internet connection and a phone or computer. I get tired of seeing all these people who talk about side hustles online. But they don’t mention the number one side hustle: creating content, which is how they make money.

So, I try to say this in almost every article to tell you that this is the number one way of making money. Interestingly enough, several content creators have grown on YouTube by featuring mainly their lives in their small hometowns. Trout & Coffee, for example, would regularly feature parts of a small hometown. Also bringing his viewers along his journey of building cabins in the woods, The Cottage Ferry is another example of a channel that got big during the pandemic.

When everybody else was locked in, and they allowed viewers to feel like they could walk outside because of the refreshing scenery in a small town where she was earning from a YouTube channel, it can vary drastically. So, I know YouTube channels with around 5,000 subscribers and making hundreds of thousands of dollars a month. I know YouTube channels with over a million subscribers are barely getting by.

So, although YouTube is an incredible opportunity, you want to be smart about your chosen niche. So, YouTube is great. It’s without a doubt, in my opinion, the best way of making money online. The only thing is you have to make sure you select the right niche and make sure that you’re making suitable videos. So overall, I will give YouTube a 10 out of 10 opportunity score.

4- Junk Hauling

The next suburban side hustle is Junk Hauling. So, this is where you help people clean up clutter inside of their house, or sometimes it might be in their backyard or on their property; you put it in your truck, put it on a trailer, and then haul it off. There’s a cool story about somebody who dropped out of college, founded a business called 1-800, got junk, and scaled it up to a 500-million-dollar empire. Depending on your location where you haul and how much you haul, you can earn anywhere from $100 to $600 per job.

Suburban Side Hustles Make You Rich

With consistent gigs, you can make a Hefty income. You can even scale this one up to a full-time income. So yeah, all you need is a vehicle. You’d probably want to use some advertising services. You could start on Facebook or Craigslist and then start doing jobs. If you do a good job, your stuff will be spread by word of mouth because many people will recommend you. This is a pretty good one. I’ll give it an 8.5 out of 10 opportunity score.

5- Window Shield Cleaning

The next suburban side hustle is going to be Window Shield Cleaning. This is exactly what it sounds like you clean people’s window shields, sometimes just on the outside and sometimes on the inside. Now, one thing you could do here is partner up with a local, small-town gas station and ask them. If you can clean the windshields of people who pull up to get gas, you could split however much you make with the gas station, which would also benefit them.

Another thing you could do is offer a mobile windshield cleaning service, or you could park out at a specific place next to a stop sign or a red light where people will be waiting for a while and then clean people’s windshields as they’re staying. Because as much as people love pigeons, they probably don’t love the poop that pigeons drop on their windshields. It’s a common side hustle; you typically make between $5 and $10 per windshield.

That means you could make up to a few hundred dollars a day. So, it’s not the best side hustle ever, but it’s super easy to get started. All you need is a rag and some soap and water. Therefore, I’ll give this one a 7.5 out of 10 side hustle score.

6- Washing Windows

Now, the next one, you don’t just wash car windows, you actually could wash any window out there, and I think this one’s a little bit better than just washing car windows as well, and this is basically where you go around, and you Wash Windows on different buildings. In some cases, you might be washing windows on the first floor of a building. If you get fancy with this, you can get a ladder and then wash windows even on the second or third floor.

Side Hustles Make You Rich In 2024

Here’s an example of someone on Reddit who started this business, and they made about 10.69 thousand dollars in revenue—their first month cleaning residential windows. As I said before, there are lots and lots of opportunities if you’re willing to get your hands a little dirty, and depending on your location and the scale of the job, you typically pay $50 and $150 per job. Sometimes, you can make more than that if it’s a larger building.

Of course, one thing that’s great about this business model is that if you do a good job, they’re probably going to have you come back every week or every month, and that’s what’s known as a monthly recurring revenue, which is a huge deal in business because you’re not having always to go out there and find new business all the time. So, yeah, you can make a ton of money doing this. I’m going to go ahead and give this one an 8.5 out of 10 opportunity score.

7- Farm Hand

The next suburban side hustle will be a Farm Hand, and I know what you’re thinking. This is really hard work, and yes, it is. It is really hard work, but there are certain times of the year when farmers need extra help, so if you can offer your services as a farm hand, they’re probably going to pay you very handsomely. Why don’t they have enough people to do the jobs they want simply because of supply and demand? So you can ask a farmer what times of year they could use your help, and they will probably let you know.

Then, you return to them at that time of the year and can start working now. Typically, farmhands make about $18.55 per hour. But again, if you do it at certain times of the year, you can make much more than this. So this one’s pretty good. I’ll give it a 7 out of 10 opportunity score.

8- Cleaning Sign Boards

The next suburban side hustle is Cleaning Sign Boards, where you clean signs. A lot of the time, these are going to be advertisement signs. Sometimes, it might also be government signs; you clean them to ensure they’re visible and stand out now. Typically, you’d make between $50 and $150 per job. And another thing that you can do here again is the monthly recurring revenue.

You can come back month after month and do it repeatedly. So overall, this one’s very similar to the other one. So I’ll give it a 7.5 out of 10 opportunity score.

9- Digital Product Sales

The next suburban side hustle is going to be Digital Product Sales. You can do this in a suburban area if you can access a computer and the internet and sell many digital products. For instance, a lot of people like to sell notion templates. Many people want to sell resume templates for various kinds of careers. The only limit to what you can sell is your creativity and Imagination. So, I’m going to go ahead and give this one a 9.5 out of 10 opportunity score.

10- Home Cleaning

The next suburban side hustle will be Home Cleaning, which is exactly what it sounds like. You go to people’s houses, and you clean their homes. Now, there are many different types of home cleaning, and all of them can be relatively profitable. Still, some of the most profitable ones will be carpet, couch, and bed cleaning. These happen to be some of the things that normal traditional cleaning companies don’t do.

They don’t do it because it typically requires specialized cleaning equipment, which is a huge opportunity for you to step in and do it yourself. The average price for cleaning an entire house would be between $230 and $400. Sometimes, you can come back every week, every two weeks, every month. That means you’re getting that wonderful monthly recurring revenue, which is amazing because it’s much cheaper to keep clients than to find new ones.

So overall, I do like this one. I think it’s especially good if you decide to do one of the ones I mentioned: cleaning couches, beds or carpets. Of course, you need specialized equipment like a steamer, but they’re relatively easy to find on Amazon. I’ll give this one an 8.5 out of 10 opportunity score.

11- Cleaning Gutters

The next suburban side hustle is going to be Cleaning Gutters. This is one of the many I used to do myself on this list. I am from a suburban myself. I lived in several suburban areas and used to clean people’s gutters. You only need a ladder and many other ways to clean the gutter. Some people use gloves, and people must do this because if their gutters get clogged up, the water doesn’t have a place to escape, so it will remain on the roof and eventually start leaking into their house.

Many different people have posted about the hustle of cleaning gutters on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. Generally, the average gutter cleaning gig will cost about $100 to $360. So yeah, this can be a great way of making money. I’ll give it a 9 out of 10 opportunity score.

12- Car Cleaning Or Car Buffering

The next suburban side hustle is going to be car Cleaning or Car Buffering, and this is where you would not only clean the car sometimes on the outside, as well as the inside, but you’d also buffer the outside so that it shines and this gives your car that new car look, where it just looks really clean and sleek. People are willing to pay a ton of money for you to do this. There are many different ways to do this, so you can start a normal brick-and-mortar business and do a remote car wash.

Side Hustles

This is basically where you come to the person’s house. Charge a little bit extra, and you wash their car and do it, bring everything there, and this tends to attract a type of customer that has more money because they’re more time conscious. You know they’re trying to save time by having you come to their house, and because of that, for convenience, you can charge higher and anywhere from a hundred to over two thousand dollars for a full detailing. So yeah, this is another really good one. I’ll give it an 8.5 out of 10 opportunity score.

Now, if you do the car washing and not the detailing, the correct side detailing is where you make it shine. When you take out any defects, for instance, if there is a tiny bump in it, you can fix those relatively easily. Let’s say you’re only doing the car wash on the side of things. It’s going to be a little bit less good. So I’ll give that an 8 out of 10 opportunity score, but it’s still pretty good.

13- Airbnb Hosting

The next suburban side hustle is going to be hosted by Airbnb. Now, this is becoming more and more common, and I’ve gone to business conferences and met many people doing this. At first, I was slightly skeptical about it, but it’s a good side hustle. There are a lot of people who are making a full-time income from it as well. Most of these people rent out houses. They agreed with the landlord that they would be using it for Airbnb. Then, let’s say they rent the house for a thousand dollars a month.

They can make two thousand dollars a month from Airbnb, right? Because they’re good at marketing it online and ensuring people are filling up those nights, right? There are no empty nights where Airbnb isn’t being used so they can make about two or three thousand dollars monthly. It’s probably $500 to $1,000 worth of profit when you count all the expenses, like cleaning, etc.

Then you have to get a bunch of those, and suddenly, you’re making, you know, $10,000 a month or more. So yeah, this is a pretty good side hustle. It’s more complicated than people make it out to be. I’ll still give it an 8 out of 10 opportunity score.

14- Tech Setup Services

The next suburban side hustle will be tech setup services, and this is exactly what it sounds like: you help people set up their Wi-Fi or satellite or their computers or their TVs, etc. Sometimes, you might be assisting individuals, and sometimes, you might be helping businesses, especially in a small town where few people are tech-savvy. This can be an incredibly profitable side hustle.

So, typically, you can make anywhere from $20 to $100 per hour doing this. So, if you’re the type of person who’s extremely tech-savvy, this one could be great for you. So, this one is pretty good. I’ll give it an 8.5 out of 10 opportunity score.

15- Digital Marketing

The next one, which is very similar, is going to be. Suppose you’re good at online, tech, and savvy stuff. So, you could consider getting into Digital Marketing, not necessarily setting stuff up but doing stuff online. There are many different ways of making money from this, from getting a job to starting your business or working as a freelancer.

One way you could do it, for instance, is to advertise for local businesses, and digital marketing is a super valuable skill set you can learn. Start your own business or do freelancing. So, digital marketing is great. I’ll give it a 9.5 out of 10 opportunity score.

16- Lawn Care

The next suburban side hustle will be lawn care; believe it or not, this one can be incredibly profitable. That’s right, you can mow people’s lawns. You can weed, whack, trim their bushes and hedges, and make much money doing it. There’s a bunch of examples of people. You are crushing it with this business model. The average pay for lawn care is about $30 to $70 per hour.

So yeah, this is another one. You must be willing to get your hands dirty in hard work, but you can also make a ton of money. If you’re eager to do that, I’ll give this one an 8.5 out of 10 opportunity score.

17- Pet Care

The next suburban side hustle will be pet care, and this is one where it’s still a little dirty. You still have to do a little work, but it’s probably a lot of fun. Services would include walking, feeding, providing companionship, and just housing the pet if the owners go off on vacation, for instance, and you can make a ton of money doing this. Countless articles are online about people making full-time incomes with a pet care business.

People will spend a lot of money to ensure their pets are well taken care of for use. They are just a part of their family. There is tons of online content about starting this really good business. I’ll give it an 8 out of 10 opportunity score.

18- Dog Training

Dog training is very similar to pet care, where you train other people’s dogs. Now, there are many different ways to do this. You can train family dogs from the time they are puppies to ensure they don’t have any issues. You can also train dogs that are already having problems, or you could even get contracts with government agencies and train dogs to be police dogs or something like that or security dogs. The average dog trainer makes about $60,000 to $70,000 a year.

21 Suburban Side Hustles Make You Rich In 2024

But again, that’s like an entry-level job, and you can make much more than that if you start your own business. So, another really good one. I’ll give it a 7.5 out of 10 opportunity score.

By the way, comment below if you see any side hustles that you think are good or any that you want me to make more articles of or ones that I should have mentioned in this article. I always love to see your feedback, so comment below, and I’ll see it. There’s a good chance. I’ll discuss it in a future article if I see a good one.

19- Custom Backyard Storage

The next suburban side hustle is going to be custom storage. So this is where, let’s say, you have some room in your backyard, or you’ve got some room in your basement. You can just rent that room out for storage facilities for somebody else. Now, there are dedicated apps that do this. But chances are, if you’re in a small town, they may not work there. So, in this case, you’d have to advertise your services. Now, you can store things in your place. Another thing you could do is build sheds for other people.

If you did this storage in your place, that would be a good form of passive income. You could make a few hundred bucks a month for doing nothing and just using up space you wouldn’t have been using anyway. If you build sheds, you can make a lot more than that. So typically, sheds can cost anywhere from $1800 to $8250 on average, and you get paid about $3,350 or more per project.

So you can get paid really good money to assemble a shed. Honestly, they’re not that difficult to make. So this is another really good one. It’s a random side hustle that’s storage-related. I’ll go ahead and give this one a 7 out of 10.

20- Food Truck

The next suburban side hustle is going to be a food truck now. This one is near my heart because I’ve had some food trucks out there that have been amazing. Suppose you find a really good Mexican food truck. It can change your life. But a food truck is a cheap, fast way of setting up a restaurant that doesn’t cause you to take a lot of risk. So you can get a food shop. You can quickly set up a restaurant or a restaurant idea and test it out.

You don’t have to worry about having a physical location where you don’t know if the location’s good or not because the location isn’t good. You drive your truck to another location, and it’s that simple. So, I recently moved to a new area, and there are no good Mexican restaurants there. The first thing I thought was, man, someone needs to set up a food truck here, and I can almost guarantee you that if somebody did, they would make a ton of money from it.

So there are many opportunities out there to set up a food truck and make some good money, and food trucks make, on average, about $250,000 to $500,000 annually. That’s about $20,000 to $42,000 per month, and then if you have a fleet of food trucks, you’re going to make a lot more than that. So yeah, this one can be phenomenal. I’m going to go ahead and give it a 7.5 out of 10 opportunity score.
